I need an SB-900, so I figured what the hell... It's a lot easier to do than I expected - and it still works perfectly. Bargain. P.S. the SB900 does have 180deg left and right as standard

Ok, I'll hold the flash, you turn it ....
VanHoolPilot (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
The stop tab on the inside of the SB800 was put there by design. If you break the stop, turn the flash head to the right 90 degrees, then go beyond 90 degrees to 180, because it can and therefor at some point will. Then you shoot and shoot with it in the 180 position, but forget whether you turned the head right or left to get to the 180 position and accidently turn it right to the forward position, you will tear the wires loose from the head. OOPS! Designers engineered the stop tab for a reason
