My parents went to Nantucket in 1950. Here is the home movie footage they shot. Included are leaving a harbor (New Bedford?), arriving and departing Nantucket, a visit to the oldest house (Jethro Coffin house?), golfing, swimming in the surf, and the lightship Crossrip.

Old Straight Warf, Brant Point...the old Nantucket. It's a crime what it is today!

I've wondered about that black fin-like thing towards the end too. It is so brief, I don't think we'll ever know. You'd think if it was a whale that my dad would have stayed on it longer. I think it was buoy of some sort.

this movie is amazing. you should play it with an old jazz song by louis armstrong, like "stardust". was that a whale tail at the end!?

Back when Nantucket was nantucket, not some overloaded and overpopulated tourist trap.

Oh, if only they had bought 2 acres of land then, paid the taxes, taken the write offs, today that empty lot is worth $600,000
